“BharatNet” project is being implemented in Tamil Nadu by TANIFNET to connect all the 12525 Gram Panchayats with Optical Fibre cable to provide 1 Gbps bandwidth connectivity. In order to provide seamless connectivity to urban areas and to set up a backbone infrastructure for BharatNet; Government has proposed to implement “TamilNet” project. “Unified Digital Infrastructure” project envisages implementing “TamilNet” and integrating the BharatNet with TamilNet, to create a unified network ecosystem. UDI would address all the connectivity requirement of Govt. Departments & Households in both rural and urban areas at an affordable cost.

TANFINET has published tender for Selection of Consultant to prepare Detailed Project Report (DPR) for UDI and the Consultant was on-boarded. The detailed report on the project detailing AS-IS condition, Gaps in existing network, Benchmark Study, Proposed Network Architecture, Estimates and execution methodology is expected by Nov 2023.
